Apple Responds to Cracked Phone Screens

Apple’s first folding iPhone has faced a problem soon after reaching customers. Some owners of the iPhone Duo reported cracks and lines on its inner screen, near the hinge that allows the phone to fold. On October 26, Apple said the issue affected a small number of phones. It advised customers with screen problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement. The company said affected phones tended to develop the problem quickly. An October 30 report from MacRumors said Apple had also sent instructions to its stores and approved repair companies. Staff were told to check the phones and repair or replace them under normal procedures. Apple had not confirmed the cause of the problem in these reports. The reports do not mean every iPhone Duo has a faulty screen.

The case shows a risk of buying a new design as soon as it appears. A folding phone offers a larger screen in a smaller space, which may appeal to people who watch videos or work on their phones. However, buyers also need a reliable device that can handle daily use. Getting a replacement may solve a hardware problem, but arranging service and setting up another phone can still cause inconvenience. Companies therefore need both careful testing and clear customer support. Buyers face their own choice: enjoy new features immediately, or wait for reviews and evidence that a product lasts. A company’s response to a fault can influence trust, alongside the quality of the product itself.
